Australia

My four year old had a very bad day, we should have gone to Australia.  I was fed up, and finally asked the question I should have years ago, she is a strong willed child prone to bad days, I asked her what I should do when she was so angry and frustrated.  She said give me a hug.  That floored me.  What a simple Christ like practice to calm both of us down.
As I thought about this, I came the  realization that most, if not all, of my best practices online have been suggested at some point by my students.  They really are my best source for most everything.  Since this realization, I have been more willing to not only look at their feedback, but try to embrace it, expand upon it, and run with it, maybe all the way to Australia.  ;)

  • Ha, ha, ha--love it, Tracy. I think I feel just like your daughter some days, and I think it also goes to show that all of us could use a little love, especially when we're feeling particularly crummy. Thanks for the reminder!

  • I love how we are able to learn from our students/children when our hearts are open. Thanks for the great advice to rely on them to better learn and fulfill their needs.

  • Tracy, I needed to hear this!! Thank you for posting. I need to be better about writing up my reflections here on the community. Ironic, since this week in 106 we are discussing that very topic - keeping a history! I hope your days have been better, but it's always okay to just sit back and have a good cry (and let our kids do the same sometimes). I like this sentiment:

  • How sweet - it is a great reminder that a hugs are powerful!

  • I love this share Tracy.  I was impressed by what you said, " ...realization that most, if not all, of my best practices online have been suggested at some point by my students.  They really are my best source for most everything."  What a profound insight and a humility that has inspired me today, Thanks!
