I-Learn 3 and Zoom Forum

I would like to insert video clips in my announcements from time to time. I see the option for embedding, but when I am uploading a file from my computer, I don't see how that works. When I click the insert media icon, I get this:

Not sure how that works. . . .

  • Dianne,

I find that I get better video quality by using Kaltura or another video recording system. I'm not sure which ones BYU-Idaho licenses.

  • Do I really have to have Flash installed to record a video?

    • From within Canvas, yes. Its recorder uses Flash. You can use other recording options and upload the video into Canvas if you would prefer to not use the Canvas native tool.

  • What about inserting a photo/image?  How do we upload pictures or images?  Like if we create our announcement as an infographic or use photos when we introduce ourselves to the class?

  • Hi Dianne,

There are a few ways to do it, so it just depends on what works best for you. Here are some help guides to explore:

    • Thanks, Brad! These links were very helpful. I was able to upload a video I previously made using one of the tutorials. I also experimented with creating my own video using the record option. I was very disappointed in the quality of the video image (sound was just fine) though. Do you know if there is a way to adjust that? The recorded images in Brightspace were acceptable, but I won't use the feature in Canvas unless I can somehow improve the image quality. Sorry to be so full of questions. I've tried to search the Canvas help stuff, but the search algorithm isn't especially helpful in pulling up relevant resources.

      • Hi Dianne. I've been chatting with Canvas this morning, and they are indicating that it's a webcam issues, not a Canvas issue. Have you perhaps tried using a different camera for the recording, or a different browser? I'm just trying to troubleshoot what the issue might be.

        • Hmm...It seems to me if it were a webcam issue, I would have that problem in zoom, screencastomatic, and our current I-Learn platform, which I do not. All of those record the videos clearly. I'll try recording on my husband's laptop with it's camera and see if I get any different results. Thanks for the thought.
